Synthetic Oil research can greatly improve the efficiency of conversion of energy into oil. For nations lacking sufficient oil reserves, this can be critical to supplying their armed forces without hobbling industry by draining energy stocks, or being hamstrung by costly foreign trade deals made out of necessity. This reason however, only makes the field important for a select few nations, with Germany perhaps the most clear example of a nation that could benefit. Most industrialized nations should consider keeping current in the field however to reap the benefits of Material Science that only become accessible after most Synthetic Oil research is completed.
